The last Defender….

After 68 years of being the 4X4 vehicle of choice for the Queen and Royal Family, featuring in Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters and transporting British troops during conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, the last ever Land Rover Defender will roll off the Land Rover production line today.

What started in April 1948 as a continuation of the war-time jeep, would quickly become one of Land Rovers most popular models.

It’s tough, durable reputation made it the worlds most iconic off-road 4X4, being revered by motor enthusiast across the globe.

Described as a ‘classless vehicle’, the Defender has appealed to everyone from farmers, the British army and royalty, with its ability to wade through boggy fields, floods and desert sand.

Showing up in the opening sequence of the 2012 Bond film ‘Skyfall’, Tom Cruise movie ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ and Angelina Jolie’s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, the Land Rover Defender has been deeply respected and valued for its ability to make movie action sequences as thrilling and spectacular as possible.

As the last edition of the 4X4 rolls off the production line at Land Rover’s plant in Solihull, a spokesman for the company has confirmed that they are working on a replacement vehicle for the Defender but it will be tough to match up to the status of the original Land Rover Defender.
