Celebrating the launch of the re-imaginged Land Rover Defender

The new, long anticipated reinvented 4×4 Land Rover Defender will finally be launched this year. Having been labelled the reborn icon that serves the whole family, its off-road credentials have been proclaimed as sensational and certainly a game changer in the modern car world, yet still unmistakably Land Rover – has it been worth all the hype?

Felix Brautigam, Jaguar Land Rover’s Marketing Chief Executive praised the launch of the iconic car, marking an exciting time for the car world, which has been confounded has speaking to the brand’s purpose and visions, Our brand is about passion, and it’s icons that drive that passion. The truth is the world doesn’t need another premium brand doing what all the others do. These icons are what separate us; at Land Rover, we are rooted in our heritage and that’s what makes us different.”
“If we had wanted to recreate the existing car then we could have moved quicker, but it is our view that for an icon to remain an icon it cannot only look backwards, but must move forwards too. The new Defender will move the game on again.’’

New Horizons for the revival 5X5

The next generation model is synonymous with high quality and reliability. Much-loved features such as the middle front seat have been reintroduced – albeit in a modern incarnation – and the vehicles are un-carpeted to invoke that pure, raw feeling identifiable with the old-school Defender. The nameplate in fact stands for durability and all-new exterior and interior design, remaining in line with the Defender’s unmistakable shape. Managing Director at JLR, Rawdon Glover explains proudly the aim is to deliver, “ultimate luxury and offering the best versatility in the market, we will have an SUV for every customer requirement.”

The Defender is legendary and the new model will represent 70 years of continuous innovation and improvement, celebrating the model’s heritage for rugged durability, while in keeping its whole new revolutionary image in pursuit of being a “Defender for the 21st century.”

It is even a firm favourite of Queen Elizabeth II and having been subject to rigorous tests to ensure that it has the most off-road capable Land Rover vehicle ever.

It is being developed in two forms: a short wheelbase 90-badged model and a larger 110 version, the two wheelbase sizes enable Land Rover to develop a basic utilitarian machine up to luxurious high-end models.

Look ahead to an all new family of Defenders.
